In order to encourage and provide opportunities to individual scientific agencies, academic and research institutions, centres of excellence and industries in the developing countries for their participation in the scientific activities of the Centre, a ‘NAM S&T – Industry Network’ has been set up by the Centre. Such organisations may be from any developing country, whether it is a member country of the Centre or not. The Network membership entitles the member organisation to participate in all the scientific activities, including meetings, workshops, training and fellowship programmes organised by the Centre.

Any individual R&D / academic institution, scientific agency, science academy or industrial unit / association may become member of the NAM S&T – Industry Network.  Two  nominees  of  the  Network  members  are  provided  free  return  international  airfare  each  year,  if  the  event  is  held  abroad;  all  registration  charges,  training  fees  or processing  fees are waived off; and local hospitality, including  accommodation, meals and local transport is made available free of cost. For additional nominees in a particular year, however, the local hospitality is still fully taken care of by the Centre, but they are required to make own arrangement for the international travel. 

The Network members are also provided space in the quarterly Newsletter of the Centre  at  a  nominal  cost  to  advertise  their  achievements  /  products.  They  may  also  disseminate  any  information  through  the  extensive  network  of  the  Centre  in  ~100 countries  and  with  ~25  international  organizations  and  access  useful  information  on science  and  technology  in  the  developing  world  on  a  regular  basis.  Through  such interactions,  a  Network  member  may  get  the  opportunity  to  offer  consultancy  or undertake  joint  projects  on  transfer  of  technology,  technical  assistance,  manpower development and capacity building in specific areas on bilateral or multilateral basis with other member organizations or countries. The Network members also get preference in holding international scientific events in collaboration with the Centre. 

Introduction

The Centre for Science & Technology of the Non-aligned and other Developing Countries (NAM S&T Centre: www.namstct.org) was set up in 1989 as an Inter-governmental Organization in pursuance of the decisions taken at various Summits of the Heads of State or Government of the Non-aligned Movement (NAM) countries. Forty seven developing countries represented by their Government Departments / Ministries and Agencies dealing with Science and Technology have so far joined the Centre as its Members.

In pursuance of its objectives and functions to promote South–South Cooperation in Science and Technology and collective self-reliance, the Centre is striving to bring the developing countries to the frontiers of science through networking, sharing of knowledge and pooling of the resources. The most significant activities of the Centre is in the organization of training programmes, workshops, implementation of multilateral collaborative projects and fellowship programmes and preparation & publication of books and State-of-the-art Reports on topics of scientific and socio-economic relevance to the developing countries. The Centre also aims at establishing new connectivity for interlinking the database on S&T experts and expertise with their national programmes and dovetailing the promotion of technological cooperation and transfer of technology initiatives with the S&T cooperation networks in these countries.

NAM S&T - Industry Network

In order to encourage and provide opportunities to individual scientific agencies, academic and research institutions, centres of excellence and industries associations in the developing countries for their participation in the scientific activities of the Centre and establishing professional contacts with the scientists of other countries, a ‘NAM S&T – Industry Network’ has been set up by the Centre. Such organisations may be from any developing country, whether it is a Member Country of the Centre or not.

The Network Membership entitles the Member Organisation to participate in any two scientific activities, including meetings, workshops, training and fellowship programmes organised by the Centre every year.

Benefits of being NAM – S&T Industry Network Member

 

v The nominees of the Network Members are provided free return international airfare from their home country to the venue of the scientific event; all registration charges, training fees or processing fees are waived off; and local hospitality, including accommodation, meals and local transport is made available free of cost during the scientific event.

v A Network Member may nominate up to two scientists/professionals each year with full finances paid by the NAM S&T Centre.

v For additional nominees of a Network Member in a particular year, the local hospitality is still fully taken care of by the Centre, but they are required to make their own arrangement for the international travel and pay the requisite Processing Fee to the Centre in advance. The Processing Fee is indicated in the “Event Announcement”.

v The Network Member Institution may also nominate candidates to the Centre for all Fellowship Schemes operated by the NAM S&T Centre.

v The Network Members may also disseminate any S&T information through the extensive network of the Centre in more than 100 countries and other international organizations and access useful information on Science and Technology in the developing world on a regular basis.

v Through such interactions, a Network Member may get the opportunity to offer consultancy or undertake joint projects on transfer of technology, technical assistance, human resource development and capacity building in specific areas on bilateral or multilateral basis with other Member Organizations or Countries.

v A Network Member also gets preference in organising “International Scientific Events” in collaboration with the Centre on cost-sharing basis.

Membership Subscription

The membership of the S&T-Industry Network carries an annual subscription of US$4000 (US$ Four Thousand Only). The benefits as mentioned above are extended to a Network Member only if the payment of membership subscription is up-to-date.

Application Procedures

 

Application for Membership of the NAM S&T-Industry Network of the Centre may be sent in the prescribed form (enclosed) along with the payment of first year’s subscription of US$4000 payable to the NAM S&T Centre, New Delhi, India either through a Demand Draft or by bank transfer to Account No. 52142908231 at the State Bank of India, Scope Complex Branch, Institutional Area, Lodi Road, Pragati Vihar, New Delhi – 110003 India (Swift Code SBININBBH42). If required, an invoice for payment may be sent.
